Passion, Wisdom, Experience
Over the 20 years I spent in academic medicine, I've informally coached and mentored numerous medical students, residents, fellows and colleagues on important issues that impact well-being and personal/professional satisfaction. Conversations included career transitions, burnout, work/home imbalance, and stress management, just to name a few.
It's often difficult to find safe spaces to talk about the range of challenges faced in a life of medicine like not feeling fulfilled in your career after investing so much time and money in your training; or the sadness felt in the growing distance between you and your partner because you just don't have time to invest in the relationship; or coming to terms with the reality that your child is struggling with substance use.
Asking for help can be hard...after all, you're the one everyone comes to for help. And in our culture of medicine, it is often subtly and not so subtly seen as a sign of weakness.
Since 2008, I've been exploring ways to offer this kind of necessary safety to hundreds of women (and men) in medicine. A place where they can come and feel supported, encouraged and uplifted. A sanctuary that provides the space and guidance to press pause on the busyness and take a good hard look at your life and find the courage to take simple steps to create a life that supports your well-being and nourishes your spirit.
